Yumy's Extraordinary Collection

Yumy's Extraordinary Collection is a great story to start out the conversation about family traditions and heritage.
I like how the author gives some personal background before telling the end of the story. The reader is engaged into the book until the very end. The pages tell us about a valuable and meaningful tradition passed over generations.  Yummy is a happy little girl who is surrounded by many different types of serious collectors in her family. The collections become part of the family  and Yumy is interested being part of it in a very, very special way.
I like how the drawings and characters represent identity, culture and history. The colors are bright and the writing is easy to follow. The reader can easily make connections with his/her personal life and even start a new hobby!

Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2017 (1/27/18) is in its 5th year and was founded by Valarie Budayr from Jump Into A Book and Mia Wenjen from PragmaticMom. Our mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in home and school bookshelves while also working diligently to get more of these types of books into the hands of young readers, parents and educators.

We hope this community serves as a resource for parents, teachers, librarians, publishers, and authors! Our next linkup will be Saturday, February 3rd and the first Saturday of each month.

Most Clicked Post from Last Time

The most-clicked post from the previous #diversekidlit was Nicholette's post at Mixed Family Life announcing the publication of her first-ever book, Ibari's Curls. This sounds like a great addition to any book collection seeking to celebrate children's unique qualities. Congratulations, Nicholette!
